Homemade Bailey's Irish Cream

Every year for the last 17 years I have made homemade Bailey's Irish Cream as gifts for the holidays. It all started back in my tiny kitchen in the townhouse I rented in Canton, MI. A couple friends and I would get together and make a few bottles and listen to Christmas carols. We were waitresses/bartenders at the time so we were able to get our bottles from work and then we would buy corks. I got the recipe from my dearest friend and still have the original recipe she wrote down for me. It is in bad shape, but I'll never get rid of it or rewrite it. I'm scared I will alter it in some way. Sounds crazy, I know!!!

Not only do I look forward to making this creamy delight, it has become a gift people look forward to every year. This holiday season was no different. Now Mike Richardson helps make it every year and we really enjoy spending an afternoon whipping it up.

Even though my friend was kind enough to share her recipe with me years ago, I'm not quite there yet. I like to think of it as my signature holiday treat and I just can't divulge the ingredients. Anyone can do a Pinterest search and find a good recipe, but I'm happy to say that I haven't found an exact match anywhere yet, so I want to keep it special.

This year we made sixteen bottles and they turned out great! I usually make tags and tie them with raffia around the neck of the bottles. This year I made custom labels and am thrilled with the end result.

Cheers!
